The Seeking Tree

Jodi Dee

A magical story to showcase the beauty of animals, nature, and our Earth. Each page is beautifully illustrated. You will get lost in the images. See if you can find all the animals!

A Best Selling picture bookin Children's Exploration Fiction and Children's Environment Books!

A young sapling sprouts! It is excited about its new world. It yearns to connect with all things that pass by. Unfortunately, human beings are too busy. So, it patiently waits and watches for a thousand years.

Follow its magical journey as humanity evolves and trees begin to slowly disappear. Until... a girl far in the future finds the seeking tree. With your help, she can change the course of history!

"The Seeking Tree was both fascinating and eye-opening to read. It is appropriate for children and parents to read since it perfectly explains the value of appreciating and protecting nature, which is currently one of the world's ongoing concerns."

A tree waits...and waits...for humans to pay attention in Dee's picture book.

In the late 1700s, a sapling wants to enjoy the presence of all other living creatures. But while most animals will stop and sit with the small tree, one group will not: humans. First represented by a group of Native hunters, then by European settlers in covered wagons and Puritan home builders, the humans go about their own business, never stopping to sit with the tree.

In a repeated refrain, the seeking tree asks, "Will you sit with us?" An older voice of the forest answers, "They are busy, Young One." Each time, the tree grows more frustrated, until the forest is cleared away, first for farmland, then a city, and finally a futuristic megalopolis. In this last setting, the tree stands alone and is finally approached by a human family in space suits, who sit with the tree and gather its seeds, hopeful for the future.

Dee and Oldaker create beautiful painted illustrations; the natural world's beauty is highlighted even as it diminishes in each spread until it is overtaken. The impact of the images, and of the frustration in the seeking tree's repeated text, ably communicates the message of how important it is to commune with the natural world.

An accessible call to appreciate nature.!

A favorite to teach global warming, historical fiction of the United States, and the impact trees have on our environment. Great story for Earth Day.

The Seven Six-Gunners and Mule Man

Nelson C. Nye

From Nelson C. Nye, Western Writers of America co-founder and Spur Award-winning author, two classic action and adventure novels of the American West.

In The Seven Six-Gunners, veterans of the Chisum-Murphy feud were bound to find themselves with enemies, and Flick Farson was certainly no exception. He'd been looking for a place to lay low for a spell, but Tombstone sure as shootin' wasn't that place. See, Flick knew about a payday to be had, hidden somewhere in the harsh and forbidding Arizona mountains. Would his wits match the speed of his gun, scoring him enough cold, hard cash to live the rest of his life on, or would fate have different plans...

In Mule Man, Brice Corrigan earned his nickname 'Mule Man' partly for the animal he rode, and partly for his foul disposition. The man and his mule were both stubborn as could be, and while that might have seemed like a bad thing, for Corrigan it was just a way of life. He'd signed on with this godforsaken crew of ten men just to be contrary to the lady who'd hired him, and he just had to prove her wrong. Now, they were headed out into Arizona's Chaco Canyon country with Jeff Larrimore, an anthropologist keen to have the crew digging for Anasazi cliff-dweller relics from thousands of years ago. The going wouldn't be easy, but Corrigan would stick it out come hell or high water...

Gunsmoke and The Shootin' Sheriff

Nelson C. Nye

From Western Writers of America co-founder and Spur Award-winning author Nelson C. Nye, two classic action and adventure Western novels packaged together for a thrilling read.

In Gunsmoke, the town of Pecos had existed peacefully for fourteen years, but that idyllic reverie wasn't meant to last. Sheriff Lawler, a young no nonsense lawman, sees trouble brewing on the horizon as strangers begin appearing in town. Just as suddenly as they appear, each one turns up dead, without rhyme or reason.

The only clue for Lawler to go on is a single-word cryptic note found with each corpse: Justice. Will the sheriff catch the killer before his warped sense of justice further damages Pecos, or will he get away scot-free, leaving the terror he's sown to linger and fester...

In The Shootin' Sheriff, sharp-dressed Wild Bill Dorne is elected by the townsfolk of Spavined Nag, Arizona, and tasked with cleaning up rustler Pecos Borst's outlaw's paradise, which has been operating with impunity on the edge of town for years.

Sharp dressed as he may be, Sheriff Dorne's shootin' is even sharper, as Borst and his gang find out. They may have underestimated the fiery red-headed lawman, but will his skills with a six-shooter be enough to save the day, or will the creeping tendrils of villainy continue to strangle the town...

The Last Ride of the Dirty Creek Gang

William W. Johnstone

In this explosive new adventure from the bestselling Johnstones, a once-notorious gang of retired bank robbers reunite for one last ride—and one last shot at glory . . .

Clay Carson thought his outlaw days were behind him. Years ago, he rode with the fearsome Dirty Creek Gang—and robbed half the banks in Texas. But then a fatally bungled heist in Fort Worth brought it all crashing down. The gang broke up, went their separate ways, and that was the end of that. But today the past came calling for Carson in the form of a telegram. It’s from Lemuel Jones—his old gang leader—who asks him to do something reckless, stupid, and downright crazy: round up the old gang for one last ride.

Jones says he hid away the gang’s biggest payday from their boldest bank job, and he just needs Carson and the gang to help him get it. Carson assumed his old boss gambled it away—and has doubts about his old gang members, too. All but one of them has gone straight, with respectable jobs like store clerk, ranch hand, and even banker. The only outlaw left has been captured and sentenced to hang. Which means the crew would have to bust him out of jail and ride off with a posse on their tail. It’s crazy, all right. But the Dirty Creek Gang is just crazy enough to give it a shot—even it’s their last . . .

JOHNSTONE COUNTRY. THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR ONE LAST HEIST.

When he’s not at the local pond trying to catch an uncatchable catfish named Bubba, “Catfish” Charlie Tuttle can usually be found at the Lone Star Outpost with his old pal Deputy Brazos and the post’s lovely owner Julia Claire. Turns out Boneyard hid an arsenal of weapons on Julia’s stagecoach, which he plans to sell to the Apache for gold. When their plan’s revealed, the soldiers take Brazos hostage—leaving Catfish alone, outnumbered, and outgunned. Of course, that won’t stop Catfish from trying to rescue his friends. Psychologist Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis, the most beloved duo in American crime fiction, return in this electric novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling “master of suspense” (Los Angeles Times).

This one looked like a slam dunk: a young woman found dead at her kitchen table, DNA on cigarette butts linking quickly to an ex-boyfriend with a criminal record. Or so homicide lieutenant Milo Sturgis thought. Then everything changed and a quick close turned into a mind-bending whodunit. That’s when Milo called in psychologist Alex Delaware, his best friend and a long-term consultant on “those cases.” The ones that are different.

Then there’s another one: an old woman found brutally murdered, her body stashed in a deep freeze and mutilated. And when Milo learns who she is, he’s stunned. This victim is someone he once knew. Complicating matters further, her home is an extreme hoarder’s den, virtually impassable due to years of stored trash and apparently meaningless objects. Except for the envelopes of cash stashed among the garbage. As Alex and Milo dig deeper into the seemingly unrelated crimes, they discover shocking links between the victims and realize they have a labyrinthine—and deadly—puzzle to solve.

Skylark

Paula McLain

A GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK!

The New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Wife weaves a mesmerizing tale of Paris above and below—where a woman’s quest for artistic freedom in 1664 intertwines with a doctor’s dangerous mission during the German occupation in the 1940s, revealing a story of courage and resistance that transcends time.

1664: Alouette Voland is the daughter of a master dyer at the famed Gobelin Tapestry Works, who secretly dreams of escaping her circumstances and creating her own masterpiece. A soldier and a pacifist make the unlikeliest of pairs, but when passion sparks, there’s nothing that can prevent their love from igniting.

Winifred Cunningham, the adopted daughter of a portrait painter, hopes that her new close friend, Owen Ware, will soon ask for her hand in marriage. But when Owen introduces Winifred to his elder brother Nicholas, the late Earl of Stratton’s second son, the slow burn between them begins.

During a summer at Ravenswood, however, Nicholas and Winifred are unwillingly thrown together on several occasions, until they realize the passion that drives their disagreements is not due to dislike—it is because of attraction.

I always loved the game, but I could do without the spotlight that comes with being Peyton Johnson, the great Reed Johnson's daughter. To make matters worse, when my dad retired from the NFL, he decided his second calling was to take over the head coaching gig at my high school, where he has coached my boyfriend for the last three years.

Correction-my ex-boyfriend.
